The plugin allows you to add multiple locations to the map using a single (custom) post. Before explaining how to set this up, here are a few important notes to keep in mind:
- When using this method to add multiple locations, keep in mind that it’s not possible to assign different titles, content, or featured images to each location. As a result, all locations will share the same title, content, excerpt, link, and featured image.
- On the map, you’ll see multiple markers/pins at different locations, all sharing the same infobox image, title, and content.
- In the carousel associated with the map, you’ll see multiple items that share the same thumbnail, title, and content.
- This feature is not compatible with the “List & Filter” extension.
When to use this method?
This method is typically used in the following scenarios:
1- When a customer prefers not to use infoboxes or the carousel, and simply wants the ability to display a map with multiple markers.
2- When a customer wants to use infoboxes and the carousel but has a specific location appearing at multiple places on the map, for example, a map of restaurants in their town with several “McDonald’s” locations, this feature becomes useful. As it’s common to have multiple “McDonald’s” in the same town, the customer wants to allow website visitors to find all locations of this particular restaurant.
Without the ability to add multiple locations to a single post, the customer would need to create a separate post for each “McDonald’s” location. Typically, these posts would share the same title, image, and possibly even content. To avoid this repetition, the customer will create one “McDonald’s” post and reuse it each time they add a new location of that restaurant.
How to add more locations?
There are two possible situations when adding more locations. The first is when you only have the address of the locations to add. The second is when you have the exact coordinates (Latitude & Longitude) for your locations.
The following instructions will apply to both scenarios. Please pay close attention to the details!
Imagine you want to use a (custom) post to display 5 locations on the map. Here’s how to add them:
1 – Add or Edit a post/location
Scroll down to the widget/area titled “Progress Map: Add Locations” and click on the “GPS Coordinates” menu.
Note: If you leave the “Latitude” and “Longitude” fields empty, your location(s) will not appear on the map. Always enter the coordinates for one location first before proceeding to step 2.
Now that you’ve added one of the 5 locations, there are still 4 more to add!
2 – Add the Remaining 4 Locations:
Use the “Additional locations” field to add the other 4 locations. You can follow these steps based on the type of information you have:
-
-
- If You Have the Address:
- Enter the address in the “Enter an address” field and click “Search”. The map will move the marker to that location. Next, you need to convert the address to valid coordinates (Latitude & Longitude).
To do this, click “Add new location”. The coordinates will automatically be added to the “Additonal locations” field. Once completed, do not click any other button!
